Frequently Asked Questions

How do the locks work?

We provide to all our renters a high security lock and two keys.  This lock is already in the unit.  When you look at the lock it will have an indentation that matches the key.  Push the key in, and turn clockwise 45 degrees.  When the key is horizontal, pull the key and the entire lock will come out of the door.  Push the slide away from the lock hole and then pull up on the handle of the door.

To replace the lock, do the same steps reversed.

How does the gate code work?

For units that are protected by gated access, the gate will remain open as long as a manager is on premises.  When a manager is not present, the gate will be closed.  To open the gate, press # and then the last four digits of the renter’s drivers’ license on file.

Please note that several incorrect entrees will cause the gate to shut down to avoid random code entries.

If your unit is delinquent, then the gate will not open for your access code.

You may call the number on the fence for assistance.

Where can I pay my bill?

Bills may be paid in person at the Grenada Ashley Furniture Homestore or the Grenada HomeStore Distribution Center when those locations are open.  Bills may be paid online at any time using your premier club login at www.emove.com/login

How big are the units?

Our current size of units are as follows:

  • 5 foot by 10 foot
  • 10 foot by 10 foot
  • 10 foot by 20 foot
  • 10 foot by 25 foot

How big of a unit do I need?

A 5 by 10 foot unit is about the same size as a pick up truck bed.

Most customers can fit one to two rooms in a 5 x 10 space.

By that estimation, 10 x 10 rooms typically can fit 3-4 rooms.

What can I store in my unit?

Please refer to your contract for a complete list of items that are prohibited.

I found a bug in my unit. What do I need to do?

Bugs and spiders are ubiquitous pests.  They will get into any area that remains undisturbed for long periods of time.  Because we do not have access to your unit, we cannot treat the inside of your unit for pests.  We do treat the exterior of our buildings with insecticides, but we cannot access the interiors.  It is the customers responsibility to treat their own units with pest control.

What is the best time of day to visit my unit?

Please keep in mind that dry storage units are not air conditioned.  In the summer, we recommend visiting your unit early in the morning or just before dark to avoid high outdoor temperatures.  In the winter, we suggest visiting your unit around mid day when temperatures are their warmest.

How can I get to the items at the back of my unit?

Stacking items in a unit can be a true test of packing ability.  We always recommend to pack the heaviest items into your vehicle last, so that when you arrive at your unit, they are the first items to be loaded into the storage unit.  With the heaviest items on the bottom of a stack, your valuables will have less of a chance of tipping over.  We also recommend keeping a small area clear to the back of your unit, so that you can access items at the rear of the building.

I lost my keys. Can someone open the unit for me?

No.  There are two keys to each unit.  We give both of those keys to the renter at the time of signing on the rental agreement.  Garrett Self Storage does not have a way to open the unit for a customer.  If you cannot find our keys, we can arrange for an approved locksmith to remove the unit and replace it with a new lock and key set.  This process costs $50.  It may only be done by the renter with a valid ID.  The lock in your unit belongs to Garrett Self Storage.  Any attempt to force the lock open or remove the lock is considered breaking and entering.

When I got to my unit, the key won’t fit and the lock looks funny. What is wrong?

If you have not paid your bill, the access to the unit will be suspended until the amount owed is paid in full.  We do not change the lock.  It is simply adjusted so that a key will not be usable in it.

I took the lock out but the slide will not move. How can I open my door?

If the slide is not moving, try stepping on the door handle to relieve the pressure on the slide.  Our doors have springs to assist in opening.

I can’t remember my unit number. How can I find it out?

Your unit number is on the key ring given to you at time of rental.  The unit number also appears on your rental contract and each of your payment receipts.  If you cannot locate any of these items, we can provide this information to the renter in person with a valid ID.

Who can talk to someone about my unit?

We are able to speak to anyone listed as a renter or contact for a unit.  If you would like to have someone able to discuss your unit, the renter may do so in person with a valid ID.

How do I turn in a unit?

When you are finished with a unit, please clear all items from the unit and sweep it clean.  Replace the lock in the unit and turn in both keys provided at the Grenada Ashley Furniture Homestore or the Grenada Ashley HomeStore Distribution Center.  If you are turning in a unit outside of regular office hours, you may leave both keys clearly marked in on of the drop boxes located on the building or fence.  Please call us the next business day to confirm that we located your keys.
